Vancouver Blues Around Town Presents Steve Hill & Special Guest Matt Hoyles.
---------------------
“The one-man band style has made Steve Hill the top star in the Canadian blues scene right now,” says Bob Mersereau of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

When it comes to one-man bands, guitarist and singer extraordinaire Steve Hill has no limits. Anything goes. He is the true exponent of aone-man band. Steve performs standing up while singing and playing
guitar, his feet playing bass drum, snare drum, hi-hats and with a drum stick fused to the head of his trusty guitar, any other percussion within reach.
Steve’s an overnight sensation that’s 20 years in the making. He’s an ambitious and raucous force to be reckoned with on the Canadian and international blues-rock scene. Now, he’s ready to break out
internationally.

Following the success of his JUNO nominated Solo Recordings Volume 1, which also won “Album of The Year” at the InternationalBlues Challenge in 2013, and JUNO Award winner Solo Recordings
Volume 2, Steve Hill first released his brand new album Solo Recordings Volume 3 in Canada on March 4, 2016.

Now, a year later, the album will finally be released domestically in the UK on Friday 6th
October 2017. One Man Blues Rock Band features originals that are outright rockers (Damned, Dangerous, Rhythm All Over, The Ballad of Jonny Wabo, Still Got It Bad to more acoustic-based melodic tracks (Emily) and three re-imagined and rearranged covers (Voodoo Child). The live album shows an artist at the top of his game.

It comes to no surprise why the Montreal Gazette has referred to Steve Hill as, “the meanest guitar player in Canada.”

“I wanted to capture a live album that featured all the energy of my live shows,” says Steve. There are no overdubs on this live album… I play everything myself in real time. There are no tapes or loops. What you hear is what you get.”

In January 2015, Steve was awarded four coveted Maple Blues Awards including Electric Act of the Year, Guitarist of the Year, Recording/Producer of the Year and Entertainer of the Year. Solo Recordings Volume 2 won the 2015 JUNO Award for Blues Album of the Year. Throughout his career, Steve has shared the stage with many of his musical heroes including Ray Charles, BB King, ZZ Top, Jimmie Vaughan, Hubert Sumlin, Jeff Beck and many others. Over the course of nine albums he’s explored everything from hard rock, country, and stoner rock to folk music while always incorporating the essence of his first love, the blues.

Steve’s reputation as an exciting performer has provided him the opportunity to showcase his talents at some of Canada’s biggest music festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival, Ottawa Bluesfest, Jazz Winnipeg Festival, Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, Kitchener Blues Festival and more. Steve Hill is clearly in his element as a solo artist and one-man band, inviting listeners into a world of musical madness in the form of blues and rock ‘n’ roll.

Mindset Presents: Dark Arps / Jeff Griffiths (Live PA)

Brought to you from a collective created in Dublin (Ireland), Mindset is hosting it's first event in Vancouver.

After the success of last year welcoming the very talented NANCY in the very famous Tengu club playing live keyboards electronic sounds, we are delighted to bring you a new live electronic music show along with live visuals by M. A.D Productions.

Our main act, Dark Arps / Jeff Griffiths will be performing a 90 min Live PA.

Dark Arps is a multi-faceted electronic music artist and a staple in the Vancouver electronic dance music community. With a lifetime of experience on stage and in the studio, Jon fulfils a multitude of roles as producer, live PA act, sound technician and DJ.
His track selections, mixing style, and the addition of a drum machine as a third deck all come together to produce a lively, distinctive sound, soaked in the signature swagger of shuffled minimal tech-house grooves, progressive hooks and driving basslines.

This energetic but functional vibe, eminently danceable and emotionally charged, has provided support to notable artists such as Stelios Vassiloudis, Ramon Tapia, Dave Seaman, John ‘00’ Fleming, Jay Tripwire, Matthew Dear, Justin Massei, Karsten Sollors, Tyler Stadius, and Max Ulis.
Recent productions and releases include EP and singles on Tribal Pulse, Nuevadark, Major League Recordings, East Van Digital and Steamtown.
His most recent release, “Lokisphere”, is a critically-acclaimed three-part ambient album, self-released on Bandcamp.

www.darkarps.com // www.soundcloud.com/dark-arps

Jeff Griffiths has written, produced, performed and then accidentally deleted enormous amounts of breaks, house, techno and random other kinds of music in the last 20 years or so. Sometimes he even releases some tunes as well.

Antoinette & Paloma Release Show

Come celebrate with us as we release new music into the world!

Tickets $12 in advance // $15 at the door

Doors 7pm // Show 8pm

Antoinette:

Antoinette is quickly becoming one of Vancouvers rising stars as an in-demand vocal performer and musician. Antoinette has cultivated a fan base that is drawn to her niche sound and style, her vocal talent and original music which combines infectious melodies with creative and expressive lyrics. When she’s not in the recoding studio you can find her performing across a number of Vancouvers local hotspots. In spring 2018 Antoinette enlisted a few of her talented friends to join her onstage as the band “The Latest” which play consistently at high profile music venues. Antoinette & The Latest were selected as finalists for “Best of Vancouver” 2018. In 2018 Antoinette recorded, produced and released her first single “Killing Time.” She then teamed up with Juno-nominated Producer Tom Dobzranski (The Zolas) in early 2019 to record her debut EP at Monarch Studios. The first two singles, “Breathe” and “Run" are available on all streaming platforms. You can expect to see a lot more of Antoinette as her star continues to rise across the Canadian music scene.

Paloma Pendharkar:

Singer/songwriter, keyboard player, and producer Paloma Pendharkar has something to say, but it took a while for her to figure out exactly how she would say it.

The piano has been part of her since she can remember, and since learning how to turn her thoughts into song, she has been carefully crafting her message to the world. Now she is ready for you to hear it.

Drawing on many influences such as Janelle Monae, Maggie Rogers, and Kimbra, Paloma’s music combines smooth yet powerful vocals with lush piano and synth arrangements. She stays true to her own voice by writing from a place of vulnerability.

It is also a distillation of what it means to live as a millenial in urban Vancouver. One of the often-overlooked positive outcomes of the economic instability that plagues so many urban millenials is the return to a community-based living model--in order to survive, so many of them (us) have eschewed the single-family home life in favour of a constantly-shifting communal model in which a community of people (including partners and children) work together to create a full, meaningful, cooperative life.
